Keep your factory OEM windshield.
Restore structural strength.
Professional structural resin stabilizes the damage and helps prevent it from spreading.
Preserve your original glass.
When the damage can be safely repaired, preserving the original windshield keeps the factory glass, fit, bond, and ADAS camera setup intact—without introducing the variables of replacement glass, installation, and camera recalibration.
Replace only when necessary.
Repair has limits. If the damage should not be repaired, you get a straight answer—not a sales pitch.
A repair-only opinion.
Mint Chips repairs windshields—we do not sell replacement glass. Our recommendation focuses on whether your original windshield can be safely saved, without a replacement sale influencing the answer. If repair is not the safe choice, we will tell you that replacement is necessary.

Windshield repair questions.
What Twin Cities drivers ask most about repair, replacement, OEM glass, and modern safety systems.
Can my windshield chip be repaired?
Many chips can be repaired when the complete damaged area fits under a quarter. Location, depth, contamination, and previous repair attempts also matter, so repairability is confirmed before work begins.
How large a windshield crack can you repair?
Mint Chips evaluates cracks up to 10 inches for structural crack repair. Length is only one factor; the crack’s location, age, condition, and relationship to the glass edge can affect whether repair is a safe option. Read the Ultra Bond long-crack repair guide.
What is crack arrest?
Crack arrest is a $75 service intended only to help stop an existing crack from spreading. It does not remove, hide, or cosmetically repair the crack, and it is different from a full structural crack repair.
Will the damage disappear after repair?
No repair can promise invisible glass. The primary goals are to restore structural strength, stabilize the damaged area, and help prevent further spreading. Some visual evidence of the original impact or crack normally remains.
Why preserve the factory OEM windshield?
When repair is safe, the original windshield stays in the vehicle along with its factory fit, bond, optical qualities, and camera mounting relationship. That avoids introducing the replacement-glass and installation variables that come with removing the factory windshield.
Why does choosing a repair-only company matter?
Mint Chips does not sell replacement windshields. The assessment is about whether your existing factory glass can be safely repaired—not about converting the visit into a replacement sale. Repair still has limits, and when replacement is the safe choice, we will say so directly.
Why isn’t Mint Chips part of an insurance network, and how do insurance claims work?
Mint Chips is an independent, repair-only company—not an insurance-network provider. Minnesota law gives you the right to choose any glass repair company, and an insurer cannot require or pressure you to use a particular network vendor.
We can still repair an insured vehicle. With your authorization and an assignment of applicable post-loss insurance benefits, Mint Chips can help initiate the First Notice of Loss (FNOL), document the damage with inspection photos, submit the invoice and supporting claim documentation, and seek payment directly from your insurer.
If you are concerned that filing a new claim could affect your insurance record or future rates—or simply do not want the hassle of filing a claim for a straightforward repair—you may pay Mint Chips directly and leave your insurance company out of the transaction. Windshield repair generally costs far less than replacing the windshield and completing any required ADAS camera calibration.
Do you really want an aftermarket windshield in your vehicle?
Before scheduling a replacement, ask exactly what glass will be installed. Aftermarket glass is not automatically the same as manufacturer-validated OEM glass for fit, optics, structural performance, camera mounting, acoustic features, head-up displays, or other vehicle-specific technology. Several manufacturers now require, specify, strongly recommend, or do not approve alternatives to genuine OEM glass in their published repair positions.
After 30 years in the auto glass industry, I have observed that well over three out of four replacement windshields are aftermarket rather than genuine vehicle-manufacturer OEM glass.
Know what you are getting before replacement begins. Ask for the glass brand and part type in writing, confirm the vehicle manufacturer’s current requirements, and verify what calibration procedure will be performed. When the original windshield can be safely repaired, keeping it avoids that replacement decision entirely.
Read the published positions: General Motors, Ford, Honda, Volvo, and Stellantis / Mopar.
What about ADAS camera calibration?
Repairing safe, repairable damage keeps the original windshield and its camera mounting setup in place. Windshield replacement can trigger manufacturer-specific calibration and installation requirements. Always follow the current procedure for the exact vehicle and equipment.
Where is mobile service available?
Mint Chips provides mobile windshield repair at homes and workplaces across the Twin Cities metro area, including Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties.
When should a windshield be replaced instead?
Repair has safety limits. Damage may require replacement because of its size, depth, location, contamination, edge involvement, or the overall condition of the windshield. If the damage should not be repaired, Mint Chips will give you a straight answer.
Does submitting the form guarantee an appointment?
No. The form starts a repair review. Mint Chips will assess the information, confirm whether the damage appears repairable, and contact you by email to confirm service and scheduling.
